modelling a concrete and steel column

Post by ablarence »

Hi everyone,
I am modelling a two story frame system. The lower columns are reinforced concrete while the upper columns are steel. I would like to know how to connect the nodes of the different materials. I tried a system where they both shared the same nodes but I received an error which stated that the "the run failed to get compatible forces"
I will be glad if anyone can help me. :D
Thanks

you do not need seperate model commands and an equalDof command if the models have the same number of dof at the nodes .. so they should be able to share the same nodes .. your problem is in your material or section definitions in the forceBeamColumn is failing. .. i suggest (what i always suggest) start with elastic materials and check the periods, if ok go nonlinear materials if not go elasticSection instead of fiber section.
