silvia, I found that if there are some additional nodes,Opensees can't converge.

no hanging nodes are allowed .. OpenSees will typically fail to converge with an error from the solver if there are any rigid body modes in the moel.

This should be revised. additional node shouldn't influence the result. in other software,such as ANSYS, sap2000, this doesn't occur.

I am curious about your remark. But, on what occasion do you really need hanging nodes? Impact analysis?

there are no need for hanging nodes and we do not plan on allowing them .. by flagging it as an error we are more likely to be catching modelling errors, e.g. someone messing up with their element connectivity, which on large models can be impossible to spot in a gui.
