Dear Silvia,
I would like to know if both transverse and longitudinal sections of a structural element say a column or a wall can be represented in OpenSees
Ask differently, how can the horizontal reinforcements in a wall or stirrups/transverse bars in a column be accounted for in OpenSees?
Are both transverse and longitudinal sections allowed in OpenSees?
Is Longitudinal Section Allowed?

Hi Silva,
Would you please explain the following in more detail
"you'd have to develop a 3d model, not using beam-column elements otherwise"
I am trying to develop a 3D model for a concrete shear wall. I have been using nonlinear beam-column elements since it is 32-storey high.
If I want to introduce transverse section details in my model, what other element would you suggest?
I am not sure how to develop fiber sections for brick element. Is there any documentation available for this?
Thanks,
Smitha

I think all you have to do is building the wall or column with 3d elements and mesh it in places where you have reinforcements and model the reinforcements (both horizontal and vertical) with 1d elements. I am sure you can find examples of such a configuration on the web...
Good luck..
