Angle of excitation

Post by Olympia »

Dear all,

I was wondering if it is possible to excite a structure built in Opensees, under an excitation angle which doesn't coincide with the global X,Y,Z axes.
For example, I would like to excite a 3 story building but I don't want to apply the accelerogram along the X global axis. I would like to apply the accelerogram along an axis which forms a 30 degrees angle with the X glabal axis in the XZ plane.

Thank you very much in advance,
Olympia

In OpenSees excitation can only be applied along global coordinate axes. However, to simulate an angle you will need to project your acceleration at an angle to the global axes. The effect will be the same.

I want to excite the structure in a special direction other than the global directions. I saw this post but I did not understand clearly what should I do, I appreciate if Dr vesna or other someone explain more about above post, and write commands related to do that if possible.
Thanks
