problem about constrain equation?

I am writing a finite program,now i find a problem,how do the differtnt element types link when they have different dofs,for example,when the soild element and the beam element linkd,they have together nodes,but the soild element has three dofs and the beam element element has six dofs,what should i do in my programm,i have no idea about this? I want to find how they do in opensees,but i can't find where? Can anyone give some help to me? thank you very much.
