Modal Analysis in 3D

Post by Paolo »

Hello!
I’ve three quetions about modal analysis in 3D.
1) In 3D I found that also simple symmetric structure have the first eigenvectors with component in all direction (One of these is dominant, the other much smaller). I expected that
only one component was different from 0. Why isn’t it so?

2) What kind of normalization has been used for eigenvectors?

3) I’m studying a simple Three-Dimensional Rigid Frame, similar to example 5 of “Open Sees Examples Primer”. To obtain more than 4 eigen values I assign to the other nodes (different from diaphragms master node) very small mass values like 1e-9. This way I obtain, for a 3-story building, 13 eigen values. I’d like to obtain 9 eigen values (three for each floor). Do you know how can I get this result?

And another question about Tcl language:
In this example:
set v111 10
set j 1
$v1$j1 dont’t work.
How can I refer to v111 using variable j?

Thank you for the attention.
Best regards.

about the last question about tcl, i'd use the string map with the jth components be the name you want.
