System command...

Post by Nero »

I have noticed that one of my models is about 2x faster using the UmfPack solver than any of the other solvers (and about 4x faster than the BandGeneral), but a different model is faster using SparseGeneral -piv. Is there any rule of thumb as to what types of models, etc.. perform better with a specific solver? Or is it a trial and error kind of thing?

which solver to use depends on your model, numbering scheme, and a knowledge of the solvers .. it is not trial and error, you just have to have
an understanding of the fundamental workings of the solvers .. the performance of many simple ones, i.e. band, profile, etc. can be found in numerical textbooks.
