32bit or 64 bit Linux

Post by oscar »

Hello,

I am planning to install Ubuntu Linux in my new desktop and I would like to know if I should install the 64 or 32 bit version.

In other words, is Opensees going to work faster in 64 bit version?

Is there going to be any difference while compiling the Opensees for 32 or 64 bit ? (say for Ubuntu 8.10).

Thank you

Oscar

the main advantage of 64 bit over 32 bit is the size of the virtual address space, i.e. you can have larger models. at the moment there are no special speed advantages.
