1) +2).. It seems like a typo. You could compare with the BNWF input file and the description in the chapter. 3) + 4) What you did looks reasonable. 5) This is not 5% damping, check the rayleigh command in the manual. I believe the rayleigh damping should apply to every element in the model. There i...

Thomas, It has worked fine for me. It looks like you have made the correct modifications to the input parameter order, but make sure your FS (Vult/V) value is consistent with the existing vertical load (V). You are using FS=2.6. while that example defines the model for the shorter benchmark structur...

I have shear strain vs damping ratio curve from laboratory. can I get the damping curve to opensees. I don't see anywhere in the manual where you can specify a user defined damping curve. However, you can specify user defined shear modulus reduction curve for the UCSD multi yield soil materials. Fo...

I have no clue why your analysis in other software is different. The other software uses the same models as OpenSees? Spring spacing, stiffnesses, qult are all the same in both software? I would recommend you start with pushover. Make sure the moment capacity and initial total footing vertical, hori...

Please help me, I want to know: how viscous boundaries are provided to simulate three-dimentional effects? The only place I've seen results for non reflecting boundaries presented is here: http://sokocalo.engr.ucdavis.edu/~jeremic/CG/CompGeomechanicsLectureNotes.pdf in the section about Domain Redu...

All of the following suggestions are straight from the tcler's wiki which I've found very useful when writing any useful tcl code. wiki.tcl.tk/348 -Increasing the channel buffer size using fconfigure helps for large files or tell read exactly the size to read set size [file size "myFile"] ...

Re: What does this stress output for quad element mean?

Hope this helps. From the manual... For 2D problems, the stress output follows this order: sxx, syy, szz, sxy, hr, where hr is the ratio between the shear (deviatoric) stress and peak shear strength at the current confinement (0<= hr<=1.0). The strain output follows this order: exx, eyy, gxy. For 3D...

If you are looking for examples for shallow foundations for ssi there is a PEER report coming out very shortly which thoroughly documents 2 models, thier validation, and example scripts. There is a Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation model and a Contact Interface Model developed at UCSD and UCD res...

Opensees doesn't care what units you input. If you want to use SI, just input masses in kg, coordinates and lengths in meters, your dT in seconds, etc and your output accelerations will be m/s^2, forces will be Newtons, etc. Just make sure you are consistent with units for your input and opensees wi...

I would think the easiest way is to discretize it into small linear bars (not sure how many you would need to get an accurate aproximation), but I've never done anything like that.

Well, I have never used RHEL 3 either, but I'm not sure about yum on RHEL 3, if I'm not mistaken RHEL 3 still uses up2date and not yum by default(although maybe you can install yum). I'm still new to this too, but to add a bit to Robbie's suggestions, I have found that the libraries are not correct ...
